Our Story

My name is Joy Kang, and I am the owner and provider of Sonflower Early Learning. Thank you for letting me share my history and heart for children. It began when I was young and I lost my mother through a long-suffering sickness, which left the family in deep sorrow and pain. It was no one's fault, but the pain overtook the family and I grew up with loneliness and a lack of love.

However, when I met the Lord Jesus personally, I found the love that I sought, along with purpose and hope for my life. Beyond that, Jesus healed me from sorrow and pain, giving me joy instead. I believe God is love, and He is always with us, even when we feel alone. It has become my passion to let children know they are not alone, either, that they are loved, and that God has a plan and purpose for them, and that they can dream big because "With God, all things are possible."

The Lord, Jesus, gave me a dream to open a private Christian preschool in 2009. I have taken steps to gain knowledge and experience to be equipped. I went back to school for ECE (Early Childhood Education) and worked as an assistant teacher, lead teacher, assistant director, and director in early learning daycare centers in order to be equipped to open the one God promised. I considered every day as training, every opportunity a learning opportunity, to create the best program to benefit children in every aspect of learning. Many personal failures and painful memories have also brought me the benefits of personal growth.  Praise God!

Much lies ahead, but Sunflower Early Learning is starting its journey small in my humble home, intending to launch out to a center soon. Our promise is that we will not rest from creating learning programs and environments designed for the best interest of children. From the bottom of my heart, I believe that children are a gift from the Lord, and investing in them would bring the best future we dream of.

TESTIMONIALS

We met Ms. Joy when she became the Director of the Early Learning Center, where my daughter, Sofia, was inscribed. Since the first day, Ms. Joy restructured the Center into a more child-focused system, identifying each child's strengths and areas for growth.

My husband and I observed remarkable changes in our daughter's development during this time. One of the most notable changes was the confidence of Sofia, who, in a short period, improved her social skills and could express her feelings and ideas. Every day, Sofia was excited to attend the Center, and in the afternoons, she happily shared her experiences with us.

In addition to her fantastic professionalism as an educator, Ms. Joy is an excellent human being. My husband and I are migrants from Mexico, and at some point, we had a challenging economic situation. Our most viable option was to stop sending Sofia to the Center, which was a non-ideal situation for our daughter's development. When I discussed our situation with Ms. Joy, she understood our predicament and helped us find an alternative to keep Sofia at the Center. Her words were, 'Sofia is an essential member of our school, and we want her here'. It gave us peace and the certainty we were in a caring and compassionate community.

Ms. Joy exemplifies exceptional leadership in overseeing significant projects and works magic when she steps into the classroom with the children. Ms. Joy's ability to connect with the children personally creates an environment where learning becomes a joyous adventure. Her passion for her work is palpable, and my daughter's enthusiasm is a testament to Ms. Joy's profound impact on fostering a love for education.

Who We Are

SONFLOWER EARLY LEARNING  is a Christian Daycare/Preschool (currently home-based) building up the foundation of world leaders. As identity is generally established by age 7, understanding purposeful early childhood education and its practices is essential to our children's success.

Sonflower Early Learning provides age-appropriate and developmentally- appropriate advanced Toddler and preschool education for their academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.

We pursue every opportunity to support children in establishing confidence and a healthy identity in the love and truth of Jesus Christ because we believe it is the fundamental foundation to raise our children to become compassionate, resilient, creative thinkers, problem solvers, dreamers, and world leaders. Sonflower is where children can thrive.

What We Believe

A mustard seed is one of the smallest in the world. It's very tiny and can be considered to have little value. However, the seed has the potential to become an immeasurably enormous tree.

If you can see a giant tree while the mustard seed is only a seed, you can also see a great leader in children, as we are all born with purpose and destiny according to God's plan. Remember, all the heroes and world leaders were once babies.

Like a seed needs the right environment with water, soil, and light in the right temperature, our children born with potential need the right loving and learning environment to grow and reach their potential.

Children are the Greatest Investment for the Greatest Future.

Let's see the potential in children and bring it to reality.

With God, All Things Are Possible (Matthew 19:26)
